rotten cheese-fruit, noni

Scientific Name
Morinda citrifolia
Category
Plants

The bark and roots of rotten cheese-fruit are boiled and used as a yellow dye in making baskets etc. The fruit appears in banggerreng season. The fruit is eaten as a medicine to treat head colds, flu, sore throats and other viral infections. The term literally means 'shit-taste' and refers to the strong aroma of the ripe fruit. If you like stilton or strong blue-vein cheese, you'll be happy to try man-ngukmang.
