The bark and roots of rotten cheese-fruit are boiled and used as a yellow dye in making baskets etc. The fruit appears in banggerreng season. The fruit is eaten as a medicine to treat head colds, flu, sore throats and other viral infections. The term literally means 'shit-taste' and refers to the strong aroma of the ripe fruit.
