Isoodon macrourus

Names for bandicoots vary across dialects and there are names also for those of different size and it seems, habitat. In the audio file attached for Kundedjnjenghmi Lewis Naborlhborl says that the bandicoot that lives near Kamarrkawarn in the rock country is much larger than those in other habitats and is called ngarrarn whilst the woodland variety is called yok or kobbol. Terrah Guymala from Manmoyi grades bandicoot size into three categories yok 'small woodland bandicoot', kobbol 'bigger bandicoot', ngarrarn 'very large specimen'. In Kune (and in Dalabon language) the northern brown bandicoot is called kobbol.
