The double-barred finch is called nin in all Bininj Gunwok dialects. There is a grass Eriachne obtusa, named after this bird which is called kundalk nin nuye 'grass of the double-barred finsh'. Bininj say that nin also like to eat the seeds of the grass Panicum tricoides and the coleus plant Solenostemon scutellarioides, called mayamaya in some Bininj Gunwok dialects.
