deaf adder

Scientific Name
Acanthiphis praelongus
Category
Reptiles

The deaf adder (some people say death adder) is called bek in Kunwinjku and Kundjeyhmi (but also berek) but berk in Kuninjku, Kune and Kundedjnjenghmi. Some Bininj call this snake ngalkodjdjewarre 'the sleepy one' because of their habit of lying still for days until some unsuspecting prey wanders close enough for the snake to strike.
