Fish

This iconic North Australian fish appears frequently in Kakadu & Western Arnhem Land rock art. Kunwinjku dialect speakers tend to use the name namarnkorl as a generic for barramundi. A synonym in Kunwinjku, although rarely used, is marlarlak Some Kuninjku dialect speakers use it as a term for larger juveniles and the term birlmu for smaller adults. Small individuals are called naminjdjibuk and in Kuninjku (and Kune?) the smallest fingerlings or newborn are called ngerbungerbu.

Very large specimens are called wardurrkku or mankumirli.

Wardurrkku' is a large individual, 'wardurrkku' and 'mankumirli' is also the same. These are two names for the big barramundi.
