Names for this duck have been recorded for Kunwinjku, Kuninjku and Kundjeyhmi dialects of Bininj Kunwok. An outstation in Kakadu National Park Djirrbiyuk is named after the nearby sacred site for the wandering whistle duck. The full name of this place is Djirrbiyuk Kakukdjabdjabdi which literally means ‘whistle ducks are standing up everywhere’.
