The saratoga is a common fish in the frreshwater country of Bininj Kunwok peoples. It has a number of different names across the dialect chain. In addition to the names given in the dialect fields, there is also a name in kun-kurrng, the respectful avoidance register used by people in tabooed relationships (e.g. a man and his mother-in-law)— the term being ngalkalngunkabarn. Also in some specialist clan lects, there are different names used for this fish, depending on the clan. One duwa moiety Kuninjku name is kondorr.
