In most dialects of Bininj Gunwok this bird is called komorlo but in Gundjeihmi it is called algurndurr. Some Mayali or Kune speakers call this bird kernalk but this word in Kunwinjku and Kuninjku refers to the straw-necked and white ibis. Just beware that there is some confusing variety across the dialects.
The eastern great egret is also referred to by the same names for the cattle egret.
